Helping Manitobans Breathe Easier

Fifty Manitobans are breathing easier this year as a result of their participation in a program, now in its fourth year, sponsored by the School of Medical Rehabilitation and the Manitoba Lung Association. Breathe Easy is a seven-week course for adults who have a chronic lung condition. The course teaches them how to understand and manage their lung disease through correct use of medications, diet, and exercise. Between six and eight first-year medical rehabilitation students work with the participants who, in addition to attending a weekly presentation, also participate in supervised exercise sessions customized for their condition. Not only do the participants gain, but students learn valuable skills in clinical judgment, case management and communications.
