Winnipeg Harvest Reaps Rewards of
University Garden

What started as a gardening opportunity for international students in 1992 blossomed into a substantial harvest. The International Centre for Students initiated the idea of a garden to give students an opportunity to grow some of their own food. Over the past five years, the participation rate has been tremendous and the harvests plentiful. This enthusiasm led to a plot being grown for Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank, and gardeners were encouraged to donate any extra fruits and vegetables to the food bank. The garden was situated just inside the university on Chancellor Matheson Road, and has been cultivated by students from countries such as Japan, Zambia, India and Australia.
