CHARACTER OF THE JOB

This position is responsible for sorting and shelving books in the Libraries. Incumbents work under close supervision and strict guidelines and procedures.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sorts and shelves books.
  • Performs stack maintenance including dusting, vacuuming and collection shifts.
  • Responds to patron enquiries for direction to various areas of the library.
  • Participates in closing procedures as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The minimum qualifications necessary for satisfactory job performance are:

Level of Formal Education Required

High school completion or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

No experience required as "on-the-job" training is provided.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work in harmony with others and provide assistance to staff, students and the public.
  • Ability to perform tasks quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work effectively in peak periods.
  • Ability to perform alpha numeric filing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and to accurately follow both written and verbal English direction.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically capable of performing the duties as assigned, which may include moderate to heavy lifting of 2 kg to 10 kg, bending, stretching and standing for long periods of time and exposure to dust.

  • Some positions may require evening and/or weekend shifts.
  • Good attendance and punctuality is required.
