Faculty Endowment Fund

2021 Competition - Now Open   (Deadline EXTENDED to Monday, March 8 at Noon)

The goal of the Agriculture Endowment Fund is to promote excellence in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences through support for a wide variety of worthy projects and programs consistent with the academic goals of the Faculty. Although a wide variety of projects can be supported by the Fund, applications that benefit a greater number of students will be prioritized for funding by the Endowment Committee. Obtaining partial support from external sources enhances the chance of success.

The Endowment Fund Committee of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences is soliciting proposals for funding from students, alumni, academics and support staff of the Faculty.

The competition consists of TWO STREAMS:

$300,000 is available for a wide variety of projects typically funded by the Endowment Fund. These projects and programs include but are not limited to:

  • teaching projects/equipment
  • student recruitment activities
  • visiting scientists and lecturers
  • special projects for support staff
  • specialized computer equipment where clear teaching benefit is demonstrated (funding of computer equipment for graduate students and research infrastructure should be shared by the grant-holder in the respective department)
  • student competitions
  • field trips - A field course fee should be charged where applicable, rather than seeking financial support from the Endowment Fund
  • library acquisitions
  • conferences or workshops
  • support for approved student exchange activities outside the University of Manitoba

In the past two years, the committee has allocated funds ranging from $195 - $15,000 per proposal, with a mean of $4,072.

$200,000 is available for expenditure from the Endowment Fund for large strategic initiatives that Department Heads previously identified as priorities for their units, such as classroom and teaching laboratory upgrades. The Endowment Committee will take this into consideration when evaluating Stream 2 proposals. Proposals for projects other than those identified as unit priorities will also be considered by the committee, however the identified projects will be prioritized for funding. Anyone considering submitting an application should first consult with their Department Head to discuss unit priorities. Proposals must follow the general rules of the Endowment Fund competition and projects must be achievable by March 31, 2022. A detailed budget and quotes from Physical Plant are required.
