Biography

Dr. Good is a graduate of the University of Toronto and Michigan State University. His primary interests include strategic marketing, entrepreneurship, and small business management. Walter is the author of five books including Cases in New Venture Development, Readings in New Venture Development and Building a Dream, a complete guide for individuals looking to start a business of their own. All are published by McGraw-Hill Ryerson Ltd. In addition, Dr. Good is the author of more than 40 Harvard-style case studies based on Manitoba and national firms. A number of his cases such as Metropol Base-Fort Security Group and Movie Village have been published in various business magazines and journals as well as a number of textbooks on marketing management and business policy. One of his cases, "International UNP Holdings Ltd." (1994), recently received the award for the Best Corporate Case in the Central and East European Management Development Association (CEEMAN) annual case competition. He has also published in journals ranging from the Hong Kong Manager to the Journal of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, the Journal of Marketing and Public Policy and the Journal of Retailing.

Dr. Good has served as Head of the Department of Marketing and Associate Dean of the I.H. Asper School of Business. He has also served as Acting Director of the Centre for International Business Studies (CIBS) of the University of Manitoba and completed a number of research projects and case studies under its auspices. He has served as a Board Member of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) and as a Board Member and President of the Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE). He is also active as Co-ordinator of South Asian projects for the Canadian Consortium of Management Schools (CCMS) and an active contributor to the programs of the Asper Centre for Entrepreneurship.

Dr. Good has participated in CIDA sponsored projects supervised by the University of Saskatchewan and Queens University in Malaysia and Thailand respectively. He has been a Visiting Professor at universities in the United States, Australia, northern Malaysia, Thailand, Russia and most recently as a Visiting Fellow at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.

Entrepreneurship, small business support programs, new business start-ups,
multi-level marketing.

Teaching Interests

Small business management, new venture development, marketing strategy, marketing and competitive behaviour.

Dr. Walter Good was awarded the Direct Selling Educational Foundation (DSEF) Circle of Distinction in recognition of his years of service and contributions to the principles of DSEF and the industry in general.

Walter Good - Wilfred White Fellow of the International Council for Small Business - 2003
Dr. Walter Good was elected as a Wilfred White Fellow of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) in recognition of his leadership and commitment to management assistance and education for small business throughout the world. Dr. Good was the fourth Canadian to be recognized by the Council.
