Volume 12 Number 3
1984 May

A freelance photographer since 1972, Kraulis has had his work published in Canada and throughout the world. This present volume marks the eighth one he has written or co-authored in his career.

The magnificent photographs taken from the four corners of the province are printed on high-gloss paper. Kraulis has combined his selection of the natural beauty of the seasons with the historic and modern architecture. Each of his photographs tells a story.

For the benefit of the reader who may not be familiar with Canada's largest province, Kraulis provides twelve pages of introduction to Quebec. The large type and wide margins make for easy reading. Except for the Manic soccer team, which no longer exists in Montreal, the brief historical analysis sets the atmosphere for the brilliant display that follows. It reminded this reviewer of the proverbial show and tell, but in reverse!

The pages are clearly numbered with the appropriate caption beneath each illustration. The absence of a large map of Quebec indicating where the photographs were taken is missed. Nevertheless, whether it be used for a tourist's souvenir, a student's guidebook, or a child's delight in looking at the beautiful pictures, the value of this volume lies in its ability to show the breathtaking beauty of this land.
