Barbara Reid has won acclaim from many sources for her innovative illustrations for children's books. This program explores her unusual techniques, which use Plasticine as the medium, and intimately follows the making of an illustration from idea to sketch to production. Pre-planning and advance preparation are emphasized.

One of a series of twenty-four titles, this program is available in French and English. From the point of view of listening comprehension, the French-language version is gently paced, with appropriate pauses and choice of non-competitive soundtrack. The level of French is suitable for middle elementary school children who are native speakers or who have been in Immersion programs for some time. Although language concepts are well illustrated by action, students of French as a Second Language might find the language too difficult.

The content is structured in such a way as to weave several strands together: Barbara Reid's approach and philosophy, her early love of reading, family influences, and her hopes and dreams for an expected child. The viewer is left with the impression of the artist as a well-integrated young woman who has achieved a personal/professional balance by education, perseverance, imagination and humour.
