Participant observation:

Stages:
  1. Entry - open-ended data gathering,  learn the most basic cultural rules and usually thelanguage
  2. Systematic Data Gathering - Administer formal interview schedules related to the research focus
Strategies:
  1. Judgement Sampling/ Key informant interviewing - Select a small number of informants who are representative of the culture or who are culturally proficient and administer a detailed and intensive interview. (Typical of anthropological approach)
  2. Random sampling.  Get a limited amount of information from a large number of informants. (Used by anthropologists as a secondary research aid or for census activities)
