Current Project: Secret History and its London Audiences, 1660-1710: Affect, Celebrity, Theatre is a monograph investigating the relationships between the Restoration theatre and secret histories about the post-Restoration Stuart courts. Focusing on the reception practices associated with these genres, the project is organized around two key "affective ideologemes" (Ngai) and seeks to demonstrate the importance of affective reception for defining genre and for revealing the formative constraints of power within aesthetic pleasure. This project has been generously supported by a SSHRC Insight Development Grant.
