Having a separate Advanced degree in Criminology would be redundant, since all Criminology courses are also Sociology courses. That is, students are free to declare an advanced major in Sociology and then select courses that are eligible for credit toward a Criminology Major or Honours degree. So, while the Advanced degree is not labeled Criminology, it would effectively be a major in Criminology. A benefit of this situation is that it keeps more options open to students seeking employment. That is, students won’t be seen as being limited to the narrower field of Criminology, but students may choose to highlight the fact that their minor is composed of Criminology courses.
