Supervisor: Dr. Feiyue Wang

MSc Chemistry (University of Manitoba)
BSc Chemistry (University of Winnipeg)

I am the Lab Manager for the UCTEL.  Our research focuses on trace elements (ICP-QQQ-MS), mercury speciation (Tekran 1130/1135, Tekran 2600 and Brooks Rand MERX) and major ions in terms of anions: Cl-, SO42-, Br-, PO43- and cations: Na+, K+, NH4+, Ca2+  (Ion Chromatogrphy (IC) Dionex ICS-5000). We are also interested in metal speciation by coupling our High Performance Liquid Chromatography HPLC (Agilent) or IC to the Inductively Coupled Plasma ICP for detection. My responsibilities include the operations of the UCTEL lab, analysis of samples, instrument maintenance, operating and sampling procedures, as well as training of new students and staff. I am involved with the planning of field programs, developing sampling protocols, sample collection and the maintenance and packing of equipment for the field. I have participated in several field campaigns to the Arctic (CASES, ArcticNet, CFL-IPY) and other regions of the world such as the Galapagos Islands, Canary Islands, Nicaragua and the Himalayas in China.
I am the WHMIS coordinator for the Department of Environment and a member of the Faculty LASH (Local Area Safety and Health) committee.
I am currently the course instructor for ENVR2550 Environmental Chemistry.
