Byron Bahniuk
Byron is a graduate of the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Physical Education (1998).  He certified as an Athletic Therapist in December 2000, then attended the Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapy Inc. and completed the Basic Remedial Massage Program (2000). Byron was the first person in Manitoba to hold dual certification in Athletic Therapy and Massage Therapy. He is also currently pursuing Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba.

Over the years, Byron has gained his clinical experience from his employment at:  Pan Am Clinic (casting technician); Associated Rehab Consultants of Canada - Athletic Therapy; The Balance Point - Athletic Therapy; Therapy & Herbal Alliance - Athletic Therapy /Massage Therapy; University of Manitoba Bison Athletic Therapy Centre - Athletic Therapy/Massage Therapy; and Team Canada Women’s Volleyball - Athletic Therapy/Massage Therapy. Byron also teaches in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the U of M as a sessional instructor.

Byron has also obtained additional education and skills in:

  • Muscle Energy Techniques (cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine and pelvis)
  • Soft Tissue Release
  • Neuro-proprioceptive taping
  • Functional Movement Screening (FMS) and treatment.

Byron has worked in a variety of amateur and professional sport environments as an Athletic Therapist and Massage Therapist. His most memorable include:

    Predator Lacrosse; Kisen Volleyball
  • Provincial:
    Team Manitoba U-16 and U-19 Field Lacrosse; Team Manitoba Track and Field; Manitoba Major Junior Hockey; Manitoba Summer Games (medical liaison)
  • National:
    Field Lacrosse Nationals (Alumni Cup); Western Canada Summer games; Canada West Track and Field championships; CIS Track and Field championships; CIS Volleyball Championships; Canadian National Track and Field championships; Junior Football – Canada Cup; Canada West Football final
  • International:
    Women’s World Hockey Championships; Polish Tour and Pan American Cup (Team Canada Men’s volleyball); Manitoba Marathon; 2014 Women’s National Volleyball Team

Currently, Byron is a Certified Athletic Therapist and Massage Therapist at the Bison Athletic Therapy Centre working with Bison athletes, University of Manitoba staff and students and members of the community treating musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.   He is also Head Athletic Therapist for the Bison Men’s and Women’s Volleyball and Basketball teams and co-head Athletic Therapist for the Team Canada Women’s National Volleyball Team.
