Title: Shirley Grosser

Dates: 1974-1998

Biographical Sketch: Shirley Grosser received a Bachelor of Arts from United College in 1958. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work (1962) and Master of Social Work (1966) from the University of Manitoba. She was employed by the YMHA from 1959-1969. In 1969 Grosser joined the University of Manitoba as a lecturer at the School of Social Work. She became an assistant professor in 1972 and an associate professor in 1976. Upon her retirement she was made a Senior Scholar.

Grosser developed several courses during her academic career. They include: Mind/Body Connection, Symbolic Interaction and Psychodrama as well as several courses related to AIDS. She was active in many professional and community organizations including: Chair of the Board of Klinic Inc. 1983-1986, The Canadian Association of Gerontology 1971-1993, Manitoba Action Committee on the Status of Women 1981-1993 and several AIDS organizations.

Scope and Content: The fonds is separated into four series. They include: Biographical information & academic presentations, teaching material, photograph collection( P.C.206) and tape collection (T.C. 119)

Restrictions: There are no restrictions on the fonds.

Custodial History: The fonds were donated by Shirley Grosser in 2006.

Accruals: No further accruals are anticipated.
