Title: University of Manitoba Arts Students Council fonds

Dates: 1914-1930

Extent: 3 cm of textual records

Administrative History: The Students' Parliament of Varsity College held its first meeting on October 6, 1914, and was comprised of students from all faculties at the University of Manitoba, though it did not include students of St. Paul's and St. John's Colleges. In 1916 it was reformed and became known as the University Arts Parliament. The parliament was headed by a Senior Stick and Lady Stick elected from the senior class of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In 1970 when the Faculty of Science split off from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the University Arts Parliament became Arts Student Council. Since 1975 when the Senior Stick position became open to female students the Arts Student Council has been headed by a single Senior Stick.
