This website is intended to provide information and resources for people with an interest in palliative and end of life care for people who experience socially-constructed vulnerability. Summary
of Research Themes
This website offers three unique vantage points:
- We offer a cross-disability focus on end of life and palliative care by focusing on issues that affect people with disabilities regardless of their specific impairment. We highlight the impact of the social aspects of disability on the kind of care people receive at the end of their lives.
- We showcase the perspective and voices of people who have been marginalized and made vulnerable as a result of the social aspects of disability. We have collected stories and personal accounts of people who have dealt with the medical system, as either as a patient, caregiver or family member. These voices and stories have been pivotal to the publications, events and tools that are the outcomes of the VP-Net project, also found on this site.
- We offer the perspective and feedback we have received from people working in palliative care who have become engaged in these issues with the disability community and the VP-Net project. Their perspective contributes to an understanding of what the palliative care and disability communities have to learn from, and offer, each other.
