Curated by Cliff Eyland and Francois Dion. 7 September - 14 October 2000

Eduardo Aquino was born in Sao Paulo where he studied architecture and urban design. He also obtained an MFA in Open Media from Concordia University in Montreal. He currently resides in Winnipeg as a faculty member of the University of Manitoba's School of Architecture. Aquino's installation 111101 happened simultaneously in Ottawa at Gallery 101 and in Winnipeg at Gallery One One One.111101 took as its starting point the idea that information and knowledge have become forms of currency in contemporary life. Aquino's project made this idea wittily - even anarchistically - visible in these companion installations. Interactive devices, including sensor-activated objects, cameras, projections, light, sound and movement, animated and synchronically activated both Gallery One One One and Gallery 101 spaces at once. Visitors were asked to use one of their own "magstripe" (credit or ID) cards to get the machinery going, which included a paper shredder.
