Research

Research interests

Dr. Cordeiro's research focuses on enhancing the productivity and environmental sustainability of agro-ecosystems using cutting-edge data analysis and modelling tools. His modelling efforts of crop and animal systems encompass the entire data life-cycle, from data collection using drone-mounted hyper-spectral sensors and indoor positioning systems to data processing using advanced research computing (ARC). Dr. Cordeiro's research program also aims at developing digital datasets to support large-scale modelling exercises and spatial analyses, as well as improving the computational performance of modelling tools. His multidisciplinary research program is being developed in collaboration with colleagues from computer, plant, animal, soil, and environmental sciences, as well as engineering.

Current research projects

  • Estimating carrying capacity of crown lands for beef cattle grazing in Manitoba (UM)
  • Beef production in the Canadian Prairies: Prospects of feed availability under climate and land use changes (NSERC)
  • Watershed-scale assessment of water and nutrient dynamics of improved pasture utilized by beef cattle (BCRC)
  • Simulations of nitrogen and phosphorus losses from native pasture at large spatial scales (MBP/Mitacs)
  • Advanced research computing (ARC) to drive forth the digital agriculture revolution in Canada (CFI)
