Lateral Moves

Since graduating from the University of Manitoba (Bachelor of Environmental Design; Master of Landscape Architecture) current C.A.S.T. researcher in residence Rodney LaTourelle has maintained an interdisciplinary practice, working as an artist, designer, writer, and educator in North America and Europe.

LaTourelle has worked together with Louise Witthöft since 2005: the artist duo Witthöft & LaTourelle create art installations, public art, architectural interventions and exhibition design. Known for large-scale colour installations that explore the interplay of colour and physical space in an immersive experience, their work explores the psychosomatic dimension of collective spatial history, often turning display strategies normally allocated to infrastructure into expressive, participatory probes. Engaging experimental tactics with an interdisciplinary approach, Witthöft & LaTourelle have exhibited and practiced internationally. Their work has been collected by The National Gallery of Canada, Remai Modern, Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Luxembourg. Their re-contextualizing, site-based practice is currently focused on expanded material exploration in the context of diverse spatial memory, recycling and circular, climate-friendly processes.
