Creative work & Research

Suzie Smith is an artist who works with printmaking and design that expands into sculpture, installation, and video. Her work incorporates the deconstruction and transformation of objects and materials to uncover new and multiple meanings. Rooted in an interest in material, construction and pattern making, she creates systems and structures for her process that act as a tool to build, take apart and push against.

She has participated in group exhibitions across Canada, the United States and Europe and has had solo exhibitions in Canada including at Martha Street Studio (Winnipeg), Neutral Ground (Regina), LKAP (Winnipeg), ARPRIM (Montréal), MKG127 Project Space (Toronto), Malaspina Printmakers (Vancouver), Open Studio (Toronto), Ace Art (Winnipeg) and Atelier Circulaire (Montréal). She has created commissioned installations with Plug In ICA at the Centennial Concert Hall for the Winnipeg New Music Festival and at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Florida with Oolite Arts. Her works are held in several public and private collections including the BMO Financial Group Corporate Art Collection, the TD Bank Corporate Art Collection and the Province of Manitoba Government Art Collection.

She received a BFA from Concordia University (Montréal) in 2004 and an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art (Glasgow, Scotland) in 2011. In addition to her own practice, she is a founding member of Parameter Press and is a regular Visual Arts Collaborator with Weather Parade Dance Theatre.
