The Canadian Catholic Historical Association A National Society For the Promotion of Interest in Notice Academic Year 2010 THE JAMES F. KENNEY PRIZE This prize is awarded annually by the Canadian Catholic Historical Association in honour of its founder, James F. Kenney (1884-1946), for the best essay on any aspect of the history of Catholicism in Canada written in a course by an undergraduate student in any university. Conditions: Entries must be undergraduate essays written in English on any aspect of Catholicism in Canada. Submissions should not be less than 2500 or more than 5000 words in length. The author must be a part-time or a full-time undergraduate student in a degree program at an accredited university or college in Canada. The essay must have been written to meet the requirement of an undergraduate credit course during the current academic year. Submissions: Entries shall be submitted by course instructors no later than 1 May 2010. No instructor shall submit more than two entries. Essays must be typed neatly and should not indicate the instructor’s comments or grade. Essays may also be submitted electronically. Founding members of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association banded together in 1933 in order:
Members belong either to the English Section of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association, or to the French Section of La Société Canadienne D' Histoire de L'Eglise Catholique. Each Section is autonomous and holds its own annual conference. The French Section usually holds its conference in French-speaking cities in the autumn. The Canadian Catholic Historical Association publishes a fully refereed annual journal entitled Historical Studies. In it are printed a selection of papers that were primarily prepared for CCHA conferences in addition to some other submissions from CCHA members. The French Section adds papers in French from its annual conference. A feature of Historical Studies since 1964 has been an annual bibliography of Canadian Church History. The combined papers and bibliography form a book of some 350 pages. Copies of most back volumes may be obtained from the Secretary-General at $25 per volume, postage and handling included. The CCHA Bulletin is published twice yearly.

The Canadian Catholic Historical Association is a national society with members in all parts of Canada. The Association also draws members from the United States and Europe. The Canadian Catholic Historical Association welcomes donations, and tax receipt information is available. The budget is balanced yearly due to annual dues and donations from benefactors.
The annual dues and benefactions fund Historical Studies, the Bulletin,
costs of administration and the annual conference.
The English Section of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association holds an annual conference at which the results of historical research are presented and an annual business meeting is held. The conference is held at the time and place of the annual meeting of the Learned Societies of Canada. Some of the proceedings of this meeting are published in the refereed journal of that year.
