Eduroam: Using your UMnetID for wireless access at other institutions

Eduroam (education roaming) is a roaming wireless access service developed for the international research and education community. It allows students, faculty and staff from participating institutions to securely access the Internet when visiting other participating institutions using their home credentials.

Eduroam Setup Instructions

The following documents are intended for U of M students, faculty and staff who wish to connect to the wireless network of another participating institution:

Operating system not listed?

Simply use our existing uofm-wpa instructions and:

  • Replace “uofm-wpa” with “eduroam” for the network name
  • Use this format when entering your username - UMnetID@cc.umanitoba.ca instead of just the UMnetID

Getting help and support

Technical support for eduroam is provided by the home institution; visiting students will need to call their home institution for technical assistance. U of M students, faculty and staff visiting other institutions participating in eduroam, should contact the IST Help & Solutions Centre for technical assistance.

As technical support for eduroam is provided by the home institution, IST recommends that eduroam be setup prior to travelling, but note that the local eduroam network will only work for local visiting guests.

Participating Institutions

Eduroam is a global community available at over 500 institutions across North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. You can use Eduroam at any participating member site. Please see the following links for a list of participating institutions:

Appropriate Use

The use of the eduroam wireless network is subject to the U of M’s Computer Facilities Acceptable Use Policy; users are also subjected to the home institution’s computer use policy and guidelines.

The U of M eduroam network restricts wireless access to basic web-browsing, email, and vpn (specifically: http, https, ssh, vpn, POP/s, IMAP/s, SMTPS). Other participating eduroam institutions may impose similar restrictions.
