Thunderbird 2.0 Instructions for Windows (IMAP)

Basic IMAP Setup
Advanced IMAP Settings (Optional)
Alternate Port Settings (Outgoing Only)

Basic Setup

1. In Mozilla Thunderbird, click on Tools and click Account Settings

2. Click on Add Account

3. Choose Email account

4. Click Next

5. Enter your name as you would like it to appear in your messages and enter your email address (UMnetID@cc.umanitoba.ca)

6. Click Next

7. Select IMAP and enter mail.cc.umanitoba.ca for Incoming Server and Outgoing Server

8. Click Next

9. For username enter your UMnetID and click Next

10. Enter a name for Thunderbird to use as your account name. e.g. University of Manitoba IMAP and click Next

11. Click Finish

Advanced IMAP Settings (Optional)

  1. Click on Tools and select Account Settings
  2. Choose your UofM IMAP account profile and click on server settings
  3. Click on Advanced in the new window
  4. Enter INBOX (all uppercase) in the field IMAP Server Directory
  5. Click OK
  6. Exit and restart Mozilla ThunderBird

 


Alternate Port Settings (Outgoing Only)

1. Click on Tools and select Account Settings

2. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP), the last item in the left hand column. On the right side of the window confirm that the Server Name is mail.cc.umanitoba.ca

3. Fill in the checkbox for Use name and password

4. Enter your UMnetID

5. In Port enter 587

6. Under Use Secure Connection select TLS

7. Click OK


LDAP

1. In Mozilla Thunderbird click on Tools and click on Options

2. Choose Composition and click on the Addressing tab

3. Fill in the checkbox for Directory Server and click on Edit Directories

4. Click Add

The Directory Server Properties window now appears.
Enter the following Information:
  • Name: U of M
  • Hostname: direct.cc.umanitoba.ca
  • Base DN: o=University of Manitoba,c=CA
  • Port number: 389
  • Bind DN: (leave this blank)
  • Click on OK until you close each window
You are now finished the LDAP configuration.
