A message from the Dean of Extended Education

  • Welcome to the Division of Extended Education

    Extended Education is the University of Manitoba’s home of upskilling, reskilling and lifelong learning where you will find opportunities for advancing in your career and ways to keep learning throughout your life. At a time when our lives have changed dramatically, we know that the world of work has also shifted and we will be here for your ongoing professional development and lifelong learning needs.

    A wide range of programs and courses

    We offer a broad array of courses and programs in a variety of areas such as business and management, education, social innovation and technology, as well as a number of partnership programs in Leadership Development, Public Sector Management and Customer Service, which are popular among those who work and want to study part-time. We also offer intensive program packages for people who want to come to Canada and study full-time in areas such as Applied Business Analysis, Applied Business Management and Applied Human Resource Management.

Courses for the post-secondary education sector

Besides these programs, we also offer courses that are tailored for those who work in colleges and universities and elsewhere in the post-secondary education sector. Our Centre for Higher Education and Development (CHERD) offers short courses such as Heads and Chairs, Women in Academic Leadership, the University Management Course (UMC) and the Senior University Administrator Course (SUAC). All of these courses are customized for the wide range of people working in a variety of roles in the higher education context across the country.

Finally, we offer preparatory skills courses for those preparing for university studies and we also house the University of Manitoba Access Program that provides academic course work and holistic supports for Indigenous peoples, low-income earners and newcomers who are beginning their academic journey at the University of Manitoba.

In short, we are the preferred higher educational provider and partner in Manitoba, and a premier provider of online professional development programs in Canada. Whether you are looking for a fresh start and a new career direction, or you want to strengthen your knowledge and skills in your chosen profession, we have options for you.
