Meet our Faculty & Students

Ms. Marcia Friesen
Marcia Friesen graduated from Agricultural Engineering at the University of Manitoba in 1995. She is a registered P.Eng. in Manitoba, having gained engineering experience in the consulting engineering industry, where she worked in environmental services and in the agri-business sectors. She returned to the University of Manitoba to complete a Master of Education degree, focussed on engineering education (2003), after which she began directing the Internationally-Educated Engineers Qualifications Program (IEEQ), a program that delivers foreign credentials recognition for foreign-trained engineers. As director of IEEQ, her current scope includes program development, teaching, and outreach, and leading the expansion of the IEEQ Program. Other academic research interests include teaching & learning in engineering, curriculum evaluation, and the development of a professional engineering identity and expertise.

Andrea Kraj
Andrea Kraj, a Mechanical Engineering graduate of the University of Manitoba, has toured Denmark, Egypt, China and Brazil as one of eight people chosen from around the world to participate in the inaugural World Wind Energy Institute. Kraj�s Masters Thesis was on "Icing Characteristics and Mitigation Strategies for Wind Turbines in Cold Climates" and dealt with experimental research of how ice forms on the blades of wind turbines and how we can prevent or delay this from occurring, for optimal and safe power generation. While presenting her research around the world last year, she won "Best Paper" at the Renewable Energy Conference in Japan.
