The University of Manitoba (UM) has been associated with Ashodaya Samithi, a sex worker organization based in Mysore, India for over a decade. Ashodaya Samithi, with UM support, runs Ashodaya Academy, a capacity building initiative among sex workers, sex worker organizations and key stakeholders.

The goal of the proposed project is to assess the use of oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as an effective additional strategy to reduce the disproportionate burden of HIV among sex workers at two sites in India. This demonstration project will inform efforts to provide PrEP effectively within targeted HIV preventive intervention programs in India, and will potentially have a significant impact on similar efforts for sex workers globally.
