Zhang Wei was bom
in Longkou City, Shandong Province. In 1980, he graduated
from the Chinese Department at Yantai Normal College. Three
years later, Zhang became member of Chinese Writers'Association.
He serves at present as associate chair of Shandong Writers'
Association and the Young Writers' Association in Shandong
Province.
Since
1980, Zhang has published a large number of literary works.
His novel, The Ancient Boat, drew immediate
critical attention. Quite a few of his books have won prestigious
literary awards in China. His essay, "Blending into the Untamed
Land", is used as the epilogue of his most recent novel
September's Tales. The novel's independent, yet
related seven chapters tell stories about a small town by
the sea and its townspeople, their roots, their lives, and
their passions.
