University of Manitoba Open House, Thurs. Feb. 21

Open House - February 21, 2019

The U of M’s annual open house is coming up on Thurs. Feb. 21!  Open House 2019 will give high school students the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a university student.

Daytime Program – 9:00am-2:00pm

Attend sample classes, faculty presentations, tours and more as part of our day-long schedule of activities. Register as a school group or encourage your students to attend on their own or with family and friends. Click here for daytime program information and to register.

Evening Program – 6:00pm-8:00pm
Check out the information village and attend presentations on how to prepare for university. Encourage your students to attend with parents, family, and friends. Click here for evening program information and to register.

Some of the activities planned for Open House 2019 include:

  • Attend sample lectures, faculty presentations and tours as part of the daytime program
  • Information fair featuring booths for all academic programs and major university services
  • Indigenous Community events – connect with the Indigenous Student Recruitment team and Indigenous students at the Indigenous Community booth, participate in personalized Indigenous Community Tours throughout the day, or attend an Indigenous Community presentation and meet and greet with staff from the Indigenous Student Centre in Migizii Agamik – Bald Eagle Lodge at 2:00pm.
  • Open gym – bring your workout gear and explore our state-of-the-art recreation facilities!
  • Hospitality area for counsellors and teachers attending the daytime program located in Bistro 205, 2nd Floor, UMSU University Centre.

Direct Entry Application and Entrance Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2019

The deadline to apply for Fall 2019 admission to the following Direct Entry programs is Friday, March 1, 2019:

  • Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences
  • School of Art
  • Faculty of Arts
  • Asper School of Business
  • School of Dental Hygiene
  • Faculty of Engineering
  • Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources
  • Rady Faculty of Health Sciences – Interdisciplinary Health
  • Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management
  • Faculty of Science

Students interested in applying for Fall 2019 admission to University 1 are also highly encouraged to apply by March 1, 2019. (The final application deadline for Fall 2019 admission to University 1 is August 1, 2019.)

In addition, students must apply for admission by March 1, 2019 in order to be considered for entrance scholarships. For more information about general entrance scholarships and the approved list of 40S courses required for eligibility, please see our entrance scholarship website.

Entrance Awards for Indigenous Business Students

Entrance Awards for Indigenous Business Students

The Asper School of Business will offer ten entrance awards in the amount of $4,000 to high school students who have been offered admission for the September 2019 intake. Applications will be available here in the near future.

In order to be considered for these awards, students must be registered with Indigenous Business Education Partners (IBEP). Membership applications are available here.

If students have not already applied for Direct Entry admission to the Asper School of Business, they must do so by the application deadline of March 1, 2019 in order to be considered eligible to receive this award.

Indigenous Business Education Partners (IBEP) staff are available to assist students in any part of the application process and can be reached at ibep@umanitoba.ca or 204-474-7401.

Access Programs

For students struggling with personal, academic, and financial issues, the path to achieving their dreams can seem elusive. It doesn’t have to be. The Access Program provides holistic support and welcomes students into a community of people who cheer them on and remind them they can succeed. Students can apply to the Access Program now, and attend the University of Manitoba next fall. Preference is given to Indigenous peoples, residents of Northern Manitoba, low-income earners, and newcomers.

Agricultural and Food Sciences Tours

www.wefeedyourfuture.ca

The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences is now offering tours of its greenhouse, food lab and dairy facility for Grade 11 and 12 students. Get a glimpse of these dynamic spaces that support learning in food product development, soil health, plant genetics and more. Please use the online form provided and staff will be in touch to confirm your tour. Tours can be 1.5 to 3 hours long and can include a “Careers in the Agri-Food Industry” activity led by student ambassadors. Snacks are provided.
