Business
Intelligence in a VET Context
Abstract:
The paper will firstly
briefly outline the VET sector in Australia, then present the concept
of Business Intelligence, what it involves and how it comes about, its
strategic uses. It will highlight the need for VET providers to monitor
the changes in the workplace in particular the skills required.
It will then present a model of Business Intelligence developed by Access
Division highlighting the role and function all staff play in the development
of Business Intelligence. It will highlight the range of sources that
Business Intelligence can came from, such as research, networks, professional
associations and government policy. It will identify the skills needed
by staff so they can positively contribute to the development and application
of Business Intelligence - providing a practical outcome for the session.

Currently the Senior Research Manager with TAFE NSW - Access Division,
(Australia) which developes programs and strategies to enable equity
of access to vocational and further education for all groups in the
community.
Main focus of work
is the developement of a Business Intelligence model as a knowledge
management strategy which is applicable to the education sector.
Prior to this I
worked for the NSW Adult Migrant English Service (AMES) as a member
of the executive management team in the position as Operations Manager.
AMES primarily delivers English language and literacy tuition to new
arrived adult migrants of a non-English speaking background.
I hold a Masters
of Educational Administration, Bachelor of Arts (Education Major) and
Diploma of Arts (Education Major) and Diploma of Teaching.
