Transforming 'Lives': The Internet Way

Abstract:

Migration in human beings has reached a sort of pinnacle in recent years. Individuals, families migrate from villages to cities from poorer countries to richer ones - for a better future for their children, for stability and better paying jobs. They leave behind a struggling/failing economy and network of support.

This model envisages keeping talent and skills in the community to have a more balanced development.

AN INTERNET CENTRED VILLAGE SQUARE: would enable

  • Continuous education for children( instead of drop outs as they are economically productive by age 8)
  • Using information access/content to improve/enlarge the existing jobs in the local economy(farmers have better information of prices to sell grain, artisans sell unique handicrafts to a larger audience direct..)
  • Access to the world for information knowledge etc.
  • Create new jobs using the internet-Call centres /data processing etc.

Costs are easily handled:

  • Cost of a computer( corporations donate or each individual in the community contributes less than $2)
  • Teachers/Training (Most governments have a teacher and a postman funded by them . Re-skill them )
  • On - going costs( Business related - be self paying , education by the government through the same budgets)
