Marcel Desautels, a graduate of the Faculty of Law and le Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface, was the driving force behind setting up a $1 million scholarship fund in the Faculty of Management. Desautels' gift is from the Canadian Credit Management Foundation, which he founded in 1996 from the proceeds of the sale of his firm, Creditel of Canada Inc., to Equifax Canada. Creditel was founded in Winnipeg in 1910 as a consumer credit firm and Desautels was its president and general manager for 26 years.
The $500,000 gift from the foundation was doubled through the Manitoba
Scholarship and Bursary Initiative, resulting in the $1 million Canadian
Credit Management Foundation Fund. The endowment will provide a minimum of
$60,000 each year in scholarships and fellowships.
