The successful candidate will have the ability to teach core undergraduate courses in engineering mechanics (including ENG1440 Introduction to Statics) as well as other courses in the undergraduate Civil Engineering program. Appointment at the rank of Instructor I requires a Master's degree or equivalent, while appointment at Instructor II is normally restricted to those who meet these qualifications and also have 5 years' experience at a University or equivalent position. Eligibility for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba as a P.Eng. is required. Preference will be given to those who hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a Doctoral degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Undergraduate teaching experience and demonstrated training in teaching will be an asset. Candidates with three or more years of engineering experience will be preferred.

The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to be an effective, passionate, dynamic and inspirational teacher, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Teaching duties will include the following:

• To teach five undergraduate course sections in each academic year.
• To train, supervise and evaluate teaching assistants.
• To participate in course and curriculum development.
• To develop and coordinate the laboratory components of courses as required.

The service component may include service and administrative duties within the Department, the Faculty and the University, and in the community. In particular, the successful candidate will participate in initiatives related to undergraduate accreditation and instruction. An understanding of the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board processes will be an asset. This position has no research duties.

The Department of Civil Engineering (www.umanitoba.ca/civil) has 21 faculty members, 13 support staff, and approximately 290 undergraduate and 115 graduate students. Approximately 25% of faculty members and 30% of students at both the graduate and undergraduate level are female.
