Graduate student information

Program approval form

Before registering for your courses for the first time, a program approval form must be submitted to the faculty’s graduate program chair. This form is used to record the coursework you are expected to complete as part of your degree requirements.

The form is to be completed by the advisor in consultation with the student, and must be signed by both. The graduate program chair will review and sign the program approval form. A copy will be maintained in the student’s file.

Directed or individual study

Students may complete a maximum of two directed study courses (total of 6 credit hours) from our faculty as part of their master's program degree requirements. Students, in conjunction with the advisor for the course, must complete the directed/individual study form. On the form you are required to include a title and a description of the coursework to be completed. The form must be approved by the graduate program chair and filed with the graduate program coordinator who will then register you for the course.

Professional development reflection

FKRM graduate students must attend a minimum of one professional development event per term enrolled as a graduate student in the program until the program is completed (i.e., students must complete this requirement once per term for the FALL (September-December) WINTER (January-April) and SUMMER (May-August term).

A breadth of events can count towards fulfilling this requirement, as the professional development needs for each student will be unique. Students are to work with their advisors to identify appropriate professional development training plans and to have the advisor’s pre-approval for each specific professional development training event. After participating in a specific professional development training event, the student is required to document their participation on a professional development reflection form immediately after participating. The student will provide specific information about the event as well as written reflection about how the knowledge gained through the event will enable them to improve and increase their capabilities.

Once completed, the report for each professional development event must be electronically submitted to your advisor and the graduate program coordinator to be counted. Progress is monitored by the Graduate Program Coordinator and is a requirement for graduation.
