U of M Grad Wins Rhodes Scholarship

Marcello Panagia is the fourth student in as many years from the University of Manitoba to receive the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. Panagia, a microbiology major, graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1998. Upon graduation, he went on to study medicine at Columbia University in New York. Through the scholarship, Panagia will continue to pursue his medical research interests at Oxford University beginning in fall, 2000. In addition to his scientific interests, this top scholar completed a minor in philosophy at the University of Manitoba, and is a pianist and gymnast. Panagia adds his Rhodes Scholarship to a long list of academic awards.
