B1: Performance Feedback with Impact
Presenter: Gerard Seijts

Giving feedback is a keystone to accountable systems; without it, goals and standards are set and then nothing happens! However, giving feedback to individuals in a way that they are likely to accept and use it, can be very difficult. This workshop will provide principles and tips on how to give feedback on performance, and give you ample opportunity to practice and polish your skills.

Gerard Seijts received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He joined the Faculty of Management in 1997 and teaches undergraduate and MBA courses in human resources management, organizational behaviour, decision making, managerial negotiations, organizational behaviour, staffing, and performance management. He also delivers workshops to mid and senior-level managers. His research activities include training and development, motivation and learning, performance appraisal, group processes, and organizational justice. In 1999, Gerard received the Associates' Award for excellence in both teaching and research. He is a member of the Academy of Management, the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada, the American Psychological Association, the Canadian Psychological Association, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

B2: Working (and Playing) with Others using True Colours
Presenter: Lynn Burnett Murphy

This workshop offers three hours of humorous and fun, yet targeted, learning to improve awareness and understanding of your unique gifts, abilities, passions, values and needs. Through a number of interactive exercises, an understanding of the individual differences in styles emerges, and an appreciation for diversity and accountability is developed.

Lynn Burnett Murphy, M.Ed. has over 16 successful years of experience as an adult educator, career planning consultant and employee Learning and Development manager. She works at the University of Alberta as the Learning and Development Senior Advisor. Lynn is a qualified MBTI and True Colours TM workshop presenter.

B3: Good Fences Make Good Neighbours: Accountability in Teams
Presenter: Doug Langrell

This workshop will explore issues that arise in groups or teams. How can a group be clear on what is an acceptable range of behaviours for its members? For what are they collectively accountable to the group leader, supervisor, or manager? What can a team do if one member is not pulling his/her weight?

In this interactive session you will learn:

  • what a group contract looks like
  • practical ways to link members' values with behaviours in a group or team
  • a method of chartering a group to make expected outcomes as clear as possible.
Come prepared to explore and experiment.

Doug Langrell is a Corporate Development Advisor with the Canadian Grain Commission. He previously worked as a Staff Development Consultant for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada . Prior to joining the federal government in 1991, Doug was a communications instructor at Red River Community College. His career includes management positions in the Provincial Department of Education, counselling and teaching at the University of Manitobašs Learning Resource Centre, and a three-year teaching assignment in Africa. Doug holds M.A. and B. Ed. degrees from the University of Toronto.
