Research Interests:

  • Development of rapid fluorescent screening techniques to detect antiseptic and disinfectant tolerant bacterial phenotypes
  • Characterization of bacterial membrane proteins (porins and efflux pumps) and lipids using various biophysical (fluorescence, nanoparticle tracking, and mass spectrometry (MS)), biochemical (polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, liquid chromatography (LC) and thin-layer chromatography (TLC)), and genetic (recombinant DNA engineering, gene deletion techniques, and whole genome sequencing) techniques
  • Characterization of bacterial efflux pump activity to identify biologically and clinically relevant substrates. Identify efflux pump-lipid influences on functionality by combining high throughput genetic/phenotypic screening approaches with LC-MS and TLC analyses
  • Bioinformatics analyses of lipid and membrane protein interactions using evolutionary analysis methods
  • Metagenomic analysis of fecal microbiomes associated with antimicrobial exposure and antimicrobial-resistant species
