University Appoints Ombudsman

Evelyn Bernstein was appointed to the position of university ombudsman in March 1999, a position that has not existed since 1994. Unlike the former ombudsman who only offered services to students, Bernstein is available to all members of the university community including students, faculty, support staff, administration and alumni. Acting as a neutral body, independent of administrative authorities in matters of university-related concerns, complaints or conflicts, the ombudsman's role includes: providing confidential and informal assistance; facilitating communication between disputing parties or acting as a mediator; and conducting investigations and making recommendations.
