Student Affairs Division Reaches Out

• Counselling Service responded successfully to a significant increase in demand for career services, including a 21 percent increase in applicants to the Career Mentor Program, an increase of 10,000 client visits to the Career Resource Centre, and 1/4 million visits to the web site.

• The unique work of the Student Advocacy office was recognized by the Canadian Association of College and Student Services. Nancy Callaghan was the recipient of the Student Participation Regional Award for her work with the Peer Advisors Program, and Integrity II, a multi-faceted education project intended to raise awareness about matters of academic integrity, was recognized with an Award of Accomplishment.

• The International Centre for Students reintroduced the World Fusion Conference in recognition of International Development Week. The theme of the conference included globalization - development, aboriginal issues and international opportunities at the University of Manitoba.

• The international student recruitment project is now beginning to pay dividends. Designed to increase our international student population to ten percent of our full-time equivalents for both financial and cultural reasons, the project this past year targeted markets in China, Malaysia, India, Mexico and the United States.
