The Olive Beatrice Stanton Award for Excellence
in Teaching was also shared by two professors:
Michael
Cosmopoulos, classics, who teaches courses in Ancient Greek
and Roman history and leads a group of students to Greece every
summer to work on archaeological excavations, has been described
as “the U of M’s Indiana Jones.” He makes the ancient world “come
alive in the classroom” through his passionate, knowledgeable, engaging
lectures. He was also praised for remembering student names, even
in the classes with as many as 150 students. Cosmopoulos joined
the U of M in 1989. Marianne Johnson,
psychology, was also presented with this award.
