Strategic Research Directions 2010


Established in 1957, the Faculty of Dentistry is staffed by clinicians and basic biomedical scientists, many of whom are internationally recognized in their fields. The Faculty rates highly among Canadian Dental Schools for the quality of its research and its initiatives in research programming,  and opportunities for training experiences. Funding is consistently obtained for both basic and clinical research projects from local, and national granting agencies as well as from the private and industrial sectors. [ read more ]

Until further notice, the Dean’s Office will not be funding Graduate/Undergraduate Students.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Please note: funds are approved on a one-time basis; per a students entire dental degree program.

Funding Application Approval Form (FAAF) and Pre-Review

For new faculty members/researchers: Internal pre-review of any grant applications, while not a requirement in Dentistry, improves your chances of success and is recommended. Please contact the Associate Dean (Research) to arrange pre-review of your grant application. Also please ensure that the FAAF form is completed for all applications.

Granting Agencies

MMSF: deadline mid August. Particularly interested in new

NSERC: multi year grants; deadline November 1; nothing “medically” related;

MHRC: 2 year grants, establishment grants, studentships; maybe equipment; deadline around March of each year

NIH: and yes we are eligible

CIHR: deadlines twice a year generally September and March

Senate Research Committee for small internal grants: different dates depending on eligibility

Manitoba Institute for Child Health: note that a membership of “associate” membership is required for eligibility

National Cancer Institute of Canada

Heart and Stroke Foundation: research grants, fellowships

March of Dimes: in the US and not connected to the one in Canada
