Notable Research Funding in 1998-99:

Sheila Chmuhalek, clothing and textiles, received a three-year, $120,000 grant from Earthwatch, an American organization, to support her search for dye-yielding plants. Chmuhalek, who also received funding from the U of M and NSERC, has been working with these natural dyes and testing their quality and durability using her new environmentally friendly way of colouring fabrics which does not involve the use of harsh chemicals.
