Notable Research Funding in 1998-99:

Jonathan Geiger, pharmacology and therapeutics, received a three-year $256,110 grant under the MRC’s National Health Research and Development Program HIV/AIDS initiative to study how a naturally-occurring brain chemical, adenosine, and its analogs protect the brain from invasion by an HIV protein believed to be a key factor in HIV dementia, a syndrome observed in the vast majority of AIDS patients.
