The journey to find ansigcheo, the foundation of DaYae Kim’s MFA Thesis Exhibition, ‘Floating Around’.
Ansigcheo is Korean for a place between reality and utopia, where one can relax and rest comfortably. Kim, recalling the old village she used to live in with her grandmother, studies how childhood memories affect art, and expresses the process of finding her ansigcheo through her work.

Grove: a study.
Two photographs, an embroidered textile, a series of photograms, and surrounding audio. Janine-Annette Littmann’s MFA Thesis Exhibition, ‘Grove: A Study.’ encompasses the viewer in a multi-media installation that records her intensive study of a small stand of trees located in Southern Manitoba.
“Each artwork denotes an individualized materiality and associated process that present a different interpretation of this prairie grove. The photographs and audio document the sights and sounds that I perceived on-site, while the embroidery and photograms depict my ruminative sewing process as I attempt to translate my experience of that place. When viewed together, the artworks form various complementary and evolving depictions that allude to my reflections as I analyze how I perceive, record, and interact with this grove and the greater Canadian landscape.”
