Community and partners

Education is the cornerstone of our communities. The Faculty of Education is committed to building strong relationships with our partners in order to prepare teachers who effectively meet the needs of our increasingly diverse community.

Our community partners include alumni, practicum advisors, co-operating teachers and donors.

Alumni

We invite our alumni to stay in touch and get involved with the Education faculty in a variety of ways. You are represented by the Education Alumni Association (EAA), which hosts Education Homecoming each year and provides teacher awards and teacher candidate scholarships in support of current and future teachers.

All Education alumni are welcome to attend EAA meetings, and we welcome new executive members.

Education Homecoming

Each September, the Education Alumni Association hosts Education Homecoming during the same week of U of M's annual homecoming events.

Education Homecoming is a great way to reconnect with alumni and faculty, network and meet new faculty members.

The EAA recognizes the important work of students, educators, and administrators who demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative, and a positive commitment to the field of education.

Campus Life Program

Inclusive Learning Opportunities

Since 2004, Campus Life has supported students with intellectual and developmental disabilities as auditing students at the University of Manitoba. Students are also encouraged to participate in social opportunities available on campus.

Campus Life, an award-winning program, is an extension of the inclusive education concept practiced in regular elementary and secondary classrooms. It promotes inclusive education at the post-secondary level for students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend university.

This unique access to post-secondary opportunities supports UM’s mandate to ensure that programs are accessible to the widest variety of students and reflect the diversity of Manitoba’s population.

CanU Canada

Can U Canada

The Faculty of Education is a founding partner in CanU Canada, a unique afterschool program that provides innovative afterschool programming at the University of Manitoba for potential first-generation university students. Student participants come to the university’s campuses for programs in sports and recreation, nutrition, science, storytelling, robotics, and health sciences and more. Programs are designed and run by Bachelor of Education students.

JAADDE Committee

Justice, Access, Anti-oppression, Decolonization, Diversity, and Equity

The JAADDE Ad hoc Committee is established to facilitate discussion, advocacy, and intra/interaction at the nexus of faculty, university, and community relations in fostering a learning environment that embraces and values the involvement of all members of our community.

Become a practicum advisor

Practicum advisors are the representatives of the Bachelor of Education program. Practicum advisors work in partnership with the faculty, our host schools and their principals, the mentor teachers and the teacher candidates to facilitate the practicum experience.

Resources for practicum advisors and mentor teachers

Practicum advisors and mentor teachers are mentors for teacher candidates. They have a significant influence on the professional growth of new teachers, helping them to learn how to establish and maintain a caring learning environment that supports all students.
