Research summary

Dr. Mitchell’s research interests are an extension of his clinical work with the post-bariatric and massive weight-loss populations.

Biography

Dr. Ryan Mitchell is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, with both Canadian and American board certifications in plastic surgery. He completed his initial training in plastic and reconstructive surgery in 2013 at UM and was accepted and completed a prestigious world-renowned fellowship in body contouring at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. 

Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Mitchell began his career in aesthetic private practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he practiced for two years before returning to Winnipeg. He has been providing complex contour corrections throughout the body since 2014. Dr. Mitchell is Manitoba’s only plastic surgeon who is fellowship-trained in body contouring procedures with expertise in body contour correction for individuals who have undergone significant weight-loss.

Dr. Mitchell has served as a research director for plastic surgery at the UM. Additionally, he served as the co-chair for the Annual Department of Surgery Research Symposium (2018 and 2019). Dr. Mitchell is currently site head of plastic surgery at St. Boniface Hospital.
