Research summary

Dr. Donna Turner's research interests revolve around using population-based cancer data to inform cancer control activities. She conducts cancer epidemiology projects using provincial cancer registry and linked administrative databases, with a primary focus on population-based health services research in cancer.  She is also the Scientific Lead for the Manitoba Tomorrow Project. As the Chief of Population Oncology at CancerCare Manitoba, she oversees the Department of Epidemiology, the Manitoba Cancer Registry, Prevention and Screening programs, the System Performance Unit, Quality & Patient Safety, and Cancer Standards. Dr. Turner welcomes both Masters and PhD students in her research program.

Biography

Brief bio

Dr. Donna Turner is an associate professor in the Community Health Sciences department of the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Her career in cancer research began in 1999 when she joined CancerCare Manitoba as an epidemiologist after completing her post-doctoral fellowship with the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. She has been the Chief of Population Oncology at CancerCare Manitoba since 2007.

Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology from the University of Alberta (1997)

Master of Science in Community Health Sciences with a focus on Epidemiology from the University of Calgary (1991)

Bachelor of Science in Health Information Science from the University of Victoria (1988)
