Dr. Duerksen’s research interests center around experiences of trauma and treatments for trauma-related disorders. She is currently the principal investigator on a project assessing current research and practice for treating racial trauma. She is also conducting an existential qualitative study focused on meaning making after witnessing loss in the context of policing. She has an ongoing interest in participatory methods and critical mental health research.
Dr. Duerksen is a clinical psychologist and assistant professor in the Clinical Health Psychology (CHP) Department at the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba.
Dr. Duerksen received her PhD from the University of Victoria and completed her residency at the Center for Psychological Services and research at the University of Ottawa.
In her clinical practice she uses therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), prolonged exposure, cognitive processing therapy and emotion-focused therapy to work with adults with post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as anxiety, depressive and personality disorders.
