Dr. Thorleifson has been involved in research throughout her residency and clinical career. Her current research is focused on perioperative patient assessment, care and outcomes, endocarditis management and outcomes, and cardiac anesthesia/surgery process optimization.
Dr. Thorleifson is the medical director/section head of cardiac anesthesia in Winnipeg, Manitoba and an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesia, Perioperative and Pain Medicine in the Max Rady College of Medicine.
She completed her medical school and residency training at the University of Manitoba, followed by a fellowship in cardiothoracic and transplant anesthesia at the Alfred in Melbourne, Australia. Dr Thorleifson was the Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship program director from 2016 to 2023.
Her interests include: cardiac anesthesia curriculum development, team-based care models, patient safety and quality improvement, perioperative medicine and endocarditis research and echocardiography.
