Biography

Brief bio

Dr. Peter MacDonald has been a professor at Max Rady College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, since 1992. Dr. MacDonald's extensive career includes serving as Head of the Section of Orthopedics at the University of Manitoba and as Past President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association.  He also is Past President of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, being the second Canadian president for the society when he was appointed in 2022.

Dr. MacDonald currently holds clinical positions as Medical Director of the Department of Surgery at Pan Am Clinic and as Site Medical Lead at Pan Am Clinic. Additionally, he is the Chief Research and Innovation Officer at Pan Am Clinic.

Dr. MacDonald's primary areas of interest lie in sports medicine, upper extremity surgery, concussion, and orthopaedic surgery education. He is the Head Team Physician of the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) and the Head Orthopaedic surgeon of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL). Dr. MacDonald is also a member of the Executive Committee of the NHL Team Physician Society. He has authored over 200 primary publications and has given over 600 major presentations at regional, national, and international levels.
