Teaching philosophy

As an educator in respiratory therapy, I see teaching as a partnership built on trust, curiosity and shared growth. My approach is student-centered and practice-driven, designed to inspire critical thinking, accountability and compassion in future healthcare professionals.

I believe the classroom is more than a place to transfer knowledge — it is a space for inquiry, reflection and transformation. I encourage students to take ownership of their learning, engage deeply with evidence-based practice and connect theory to real-world respiratory care. Each lesson is an opportunity for students to question, collaborate and apply their learning in human-centered ways that strengthen both skill and empathy.

My teaching emphasizes clarity, structure and respect for diverse learning styles. I set high expectations and support my students in meeting them through consistent feedback, mentorship and encouragement. I make use of technology and interactive teaching methods to enhance engagement and accessibility, while ensuring that critical thinking and clinical reasoning remain at the core of learning.

Above all, I teach to serve my students and my profession — helping learners become confident, reflective and ethical practitioners who will advance respiratory care in Canada and beyond. In doing so, I continue to learn from my students every day, growing as both an educator and a lifelong learner.
