Home and Away: Some Thoughts on Fantasy and History
    Tuesday, November 18, 2025
    1:00 pm – 2:15 pm
    Great Hall, 218 University College
Reception to follow. Open to all.

Hear the international best-selling and award-winning author Guy Gavriel Kay, a Faculty of Arts alumni who majored in philosophy, speak about fantasy as a genre and its strength as a way of addressing history. A Q&A will follow his talk. Come with your questions about his work, inspirations, research process or what it’s like to be an author.

GUY GAVRIEL KAY [BA/75] is the author of sixteen novels and a book of poetry. Translations of his fiction exceed thirty languages and his books have appeared on bestseller lists in many countries. Kay has been nominated for and has won numerous literary awards and is the recipient of the International Goliardos Prize for his contributions to the literature of the fantastic. In 2014 he was named to the Order of Canada, the country's highest civilian honour.

Don't miss out on this wild Irish tale where the audience and the actors share one stage and one unforgettable experience.

  • The Shaughraun

By Dion Boucicault. Directed by Dr. Bill Kerr.

    November 26-29, 2025
    Wednesday to Saturday 7:00 p.m.
    Saturday 2:00 p.m.
John J. Conklin Theatre, Gail Asper Performing Arts Hall, 3rd floor Taché Arts Complex, 150 Dafoe Road (Fort Garry campus)

In The Shaughraun, distance, prejudice, and their own actions separate three couples. Can the Shaughraun trick the English and the Irish turncoats so that the couples can unite? We encourage the modern audience to take sides, to hiss at villains and cheer for heroes (but no throwing things on stage!)

  • 2025 Faculty of Arts Celebration of Undergraduate Research

On July 30, 2025 the Faculty of Arts hosted the 2025 Celebration of Undergraduate Research luncheon to celebrate 2025 undergraduate student research award (URA) and psychology undergraduate research experience award (PURE) competition winners and their research advisors. We highlighted the amazing research that occurred over the summer and ended the summer research work term with a celebration.
